How long should we wait before we try again?

my husband and i had our first child nov 11th. i have only had one period since giving birth and that was just 2 saturdays ago. i was put back on Yasmin birth control. i was on it before i was pregnant so they said since i adjusted well to it without problems, they put me back on it. well i am on my 12th day of my first pack and i have read alot of bad things about yasmin and yaz and i am now afraid to continue taking it. i called my gyn and asked to switch and she told me that yasmin didnt create any higher risk than any other BC out there. it just seems like it because more people use it than any other BC but if i still wanted to switch after i finished this pack, they would. well my husband and i have both decided that just to be on the safe side, i wouldnt take any BC pills after i finish this pack. we would just use other forms of contraceptive. we have also decided we wanted to have another child around the time our daughter is one years old. well at least start trying then. but the thing is, it took us 18 months of trying just to concieve our daughter. and we are worried it might take that long again. i know all pregnancies are different and we could get pregnant the next month but how long would be a good amount of time to wait before trying again? i have only had one period since giving birth and i have heard i should at least wait until i have 3 full cycles. is this true?
