How to make aquarium plants snail free?

I just ordered some live aquatic Jungle val plants from a guy on ebay. I had a bad expierence with plants infested with snails. How can I make sure these plants dont have snails before i put them in the tank? Also should I get Cory cats or ghost shrimp to help clean the bottom of my tank. Cories are hard to feed arent they?
